Several weeks into the heart of the season, "the prediction is unfortunately quite accurate," said Stephen Pancoast, M.D., an infectious disease specialist at Regional and Moses Taylor hospitals in Scranton. With 318 reported cases of influenza in the 2014-15 season as of Jan. 17 - just a fraction of actual cases - Lackawanna County has already reached the February levels of last season, said Joseph C. Koval, M.D., medical director for clinical performance at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
