Phillip Furiosi, principal of the new Charles Sumner School and Lafayette School, announced that students at each school would have a few extra days of summer vacation because new desks for teachers and students had not been delivered. Pennsylvania Gov. Raymond Shafer, U.S. Rep. Joseph McDade and Joseph Corgan, head of environmental activities for the federal Bureau of Mines, were scheduled to be in the area Aug. 28 to tour the sections of Taylor affected by a series of mine subsidences.
